Thought of the Day

If sound can't travel in vacuum, we shouldn't be hearing anything in space; which means that those explosions you see on science fiction movies SHOULDN'T be heard.

No wonder they call them science FICTION.

Carbonata Abstainato

Out of randomness, I have set myself a target of abstaining from carbonated drinks for 1 month. That is right, no Coke, Sprite, 100 Plus, etc. Non-carbonated drinks like ice lemon tea, juices, etc. are alright.

These drinks have little (if any at all) nutritional value and the only thing that attracts me to them is the sugar contained in them (I speak for myself, some people might indulge in the gas and caffeine). I figured that I can obtain sugar from other sources.

So it is. 25th NOVEMBER: we'll see how my discipline persists.
----------
It's a quiet night in hall tonight, half the hall is back home, especially since it's a long weekend. It's more or less one month to exams, time to shift up another gear.
----------
No prizes for guessing who this is. LOL.

5S

7 hours of safety training really takes a toll on you. Physically, it tightens your muscles since you're sitting on a chair for the whole session. Mentally, it floods your brain with so many facts that remain there for the next few days.
----------
5S (Seiri, Seiton, Seiso, Seiketsu, Shitsuke)
which stands for Tidiness, Orderliness, Cleanliness, Standardization, and Discipline.

This 5S process is a procedure invented in Japan to achieve organization of the highest standards in the workplace.

It's Deepavali weekend, which means there will be a lot of travellers on the road. I pray for a safe journey for all travellers.

Weekend Can't Come Soon Enough

Weekend's here. About time. Been a series of events this whole week and finally (hopefully), it'll be a good break this weekend.

There's still today to get through though. The 2nd part of my safety training for IMRE, my attachment company, resumes today from 9 am - 4 pm. Yes, that's a mighty long session. Had the 1st part yesterday from 9 am - 1 pm.

FACT FOR THE DAY: Singapore is TOP 10 in fatal accidents occuring in laboratories.

So watch out when you're working in the labs, my friends and understand the safety procedures thoroughly.

Shall have a short nap now before the training.

Midweek is usually a tough day as you are trapped directly in between the 2 weekends. This was not the case this morning for me as I received good news from my HR tutor. The reflection paper that I submitted 2 weeks ago came good. No exact score, but according to my tutor, he separated the scores into 2 sections, and my paper was in the group with the higher score. Though this only means a few points more, it was encouraging nonetheless.

Took a simple test in class that determines my locus of control. The term refers to a person's belief about what causes the bad or good results in their life. My results show that I have a high INTERNAL locus of control, meaning that I believe that I am able to influence things that happen in my life. The opposite of this is having a high EXTERNAL locus of control, which indicates a belief that things are just meant to be the way they are and nothing can be done about them.

Does that mean that I believe I can change the world? You bet it does, little by little.

"I believe in change and the power that is brought about by it"

In the same class, we did a personality test which partly assesses one's stress level. The result was what I expected (and hoped for). I HAVE A LOW STRESS LEVEL. That's some cause for celebration.

But WAIT. I was then informed that people in my personality group rarely makes use of the adrenaline in our bodies and hence the adrenaline might clog up the blood vessels, cause high-blood pressure, cardiac arrest etc. That was NOT what I hoped for. Looks like I have to rush myself a bit more.

The next time you see me strolling in front of you, please hurry me along. It'll probably be a favour under these circumstances.

Peace is all around, you just have to find it

Time really flies, can't believe it's already one week since I was home. Have been keeping myself busy, but that's not good for my soul.

Took Saturday night off to get out for a bit and went over to St. Patrick's School. They were having their LTC II and the programme that night was Solidarity & LDoPP (Lasallian Day of Prayer for Peace). It was a fantastic opportunity to free my mind.

The interesting thing about this peace vigil is that we did a prayer in each of the main religions. We had a prayer in the Muslim, Christian, Catholic, Hindu and Buddhist faiths. This is how Lasallian Spirituality is special, that people of all faiths can come together for a common good; for a world of peace everlasting.

Peace Begins With a Smile... Let no one come to you without leaving happier - Mother Theresa

Solidarity Meal (Lime, Bittergourd, Rice, Sugar and Water) laid out in the Heritage Hall

LDoPP participants lighting the candles from a common flame

My attempt to capture the glow from the candles, successful shot (though I could do with a better camera)

Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me.

Pre-lunch Scribbles

Waiting to go for lunch soon before starting my final preparations for my test tomorrow evening. 2 MCQ quizzes in 50 minutes, lots of formulas involved, lots of memory needed. Any brainfood to suggest?

WANNA SHOUT OUT NOW... HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CHERYL =). Too bad you have to work on your birthday but weekend is soon, so a reason to be cheerful.

Out of randomness.....
I'm going to write a short story
I'm going to write a song
I'm going for my spiritual walk
I'm going to have lunch
I'm going HOME.

"I'm going home, to the place where I belong"

One more day

It's a shame they cut off the branches. No more shade from the morning sun now.

My sis-in-law and baby are back in M'sia. I can't wait to cuddle little Zach when I get home. I'm sure my brother misses them badly. I would if I were him. Hang in there, KO.

Desiree's sister gave birth to a girl yesterday. Congratulations. That made me itching more to go back and mess the baby's hair. Haha.

There's just something about a baby's birth that lightens up the hearts of everyone around. It's like a sign of hope. Hope to carry on, one more day.

A Monday's musings

Have a reflection paper due on Wednesday morning, but haven't got down to work on it. Test on Friday, which I'm only about 30% ready for. Procrastination seems to kick in often nowadays.

October is usually the month when everything really kicks in, projects, assignments, tests. I need to move up a gear. Pronto.

I'm going home this weekend for a long needed break. Some easy-going air from Ipoh will do me good. Wonder if I could contain some in a bottle and bring it back here.

Can't wait to be on the road again.

Satu minggu lagi

What happened to the test? I think I nailed it, but that's just me being overconfident. Anticipating the results too soon.

Another Sunday, another weekend. What is a man to do when time passes him so swiftly?

I need a spiritual walk... soon...

And then, life begins once more.

Videos of Zach Zach, my favourite nephew. He's turning out fine and catching words fast too. Smart kid.
